Sheds and garages are often targeted by opportunist thieves looking for valuable items such as bicycles, power tools, gardening equipment and machinery. Taking a few simple steps can make your property far less attractive to criminals.

Fit good quality locks and hasps to doors and windows
Keep sheds and garages locked, even when you're at home
Mark and register valuable property using a property marking such as UV Pens.
Consider fitting an alarm, security lighting or CCTV
Store high-value items out of sight and secure them to an anchor point where possible
Keep access points clear and well maintained so suspicious activity can be seen
Photograph valuable items and record serial numbers

Remember, criminals often look for the easiest target. A few moments spent improving security could prevent the loss of valuable equipment and save significant inconvenience.
